Paul Mackie, Ph.D., MSW

Professional Affiliations

Paul received his Masters of Social Work degree from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis in 1999 and his doctoral degree from the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver in 2005. He is currently an Associate Professor of social work at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

NARMH Positions

Paul has been a NARMH member since 2002. He was elected to the NARMH Board in 2009.

Rural Mental Health Involvement and Contributions
Paul's research focuses on rural social service and mental health labor force issues, including burnout, job satisfaction, and developing recruitment and retention strategies for rural staff. Paul has worked on the Pine Ridge Oglala Reservation in a family and children's services program which focused on the use of both traditional and western treatment modalities. In addition, he has worked on community development projects in a rural Minnesota community. From 2006 - 2009, Paul served as the Title IV-E child welfare co-coordinator for the Minnesota State Mankato social work department, where he focused on curriculum development and education of child welfare workers preparing for rural practice.
