WCMHS is one of ten agencies Designated by Vermont Statute to assure that a comprehensive range of services are available for: adults with Mental illnesses, children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances and people with developmental disabilities. In addition to the above, it also provides outpatient and outreach services for adults and children with less severe mental health needs. It is a private, non-profit corporation with a citizen Board of Directors, funded primarily though a contract with the State. Other funding is from local and state grants and contracts, private insurance, Green Mountain United Way support, contributions and fees based on the client’s ability to pay. The agency’s Mental Health Services are available to residents of Washington County plus the towns of Orange, Washington and Williamstown. Developmental Services are offered to Washington County residents and work in collaboration with the State and other providers to assure that the needs of all residents of Vermont are best served. Guidelines for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, or religion.

We operate a twenty-four hour-seven day a week toll free problem gambling helpline for Vermonters. We offer presentations and training to healthcare providers, community groups and individuals when requested.

In partnership with public and private organizations, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAP) of the Department of Health plans, supports, and evaluates a comprehensive system that provides education, prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery and research services.
Vermont Psychiatric Survivors, Inc.

RECOVERY is the star we can all reach out and grasp. VPS started out as a sponsor of peer run support groups that could be either support, educational, or social. There are now 12 peer support groups around Vermont receiving anywhere between $300 and $1200 a quarter to run their activities.

The program focuses on integrated community mental health and substance abuse services for children, youth and families or adults and emphasizes development of clinical skills needed to provide best practices, as well as planning, evaluation and administration skills to support a rapidly changing system of care. The Annapolis Coalition on the Behavioral Health Workforce, a national organization, has selected PCMH as an “Innovative Practice in Workforce Development” under the following five categories: consumer and family/adult mental health; child/adolescent and school-based mental health; leadership; rural mental health; and substance use disorders treatment and person in recovery.
