Preconference #1 LEARNING EXCHANGE! (30 slots available)
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 - 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Rural Behavioral Health Learning Exchange Focusing on Children and
Families is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration, Child, Adolescent and Family Branch, in collaboration with the
National Association for Rural Mental Health, the Technical Assistance
Partnership for Child and Family Mental Health, the National Technical
Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health at the Georgetown University
Center for Child and Human Development, and the Western Interstate
Commission for Higher Education Mental Health Program. The bus leaves the
Hilton Hotel promptly at 7:30 a.m. The bus returns to the hotel at 1:30
p.m. to continue the Learning Community Discussion Session.
The
registration fee for the Learning Exchange is $100. This fee covers
transportation, breakfast, lunch and all Learning Exchange materials.
Preconference #2 OPPORTUNITIES/PROGRAMS FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES
Tuesday, May 15, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
In addition to the National Institutes of Health, many opportunities/programs
supporting rural communities are available at various Federal Agencies and
private organization. An overview of opportunities/ programs at Federal
Agencies will be discussed. A summary of rural resources and contacts at
various federal agencies including Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA),
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), US Department of Agriculture
(USDA) on Rural and Community Development, US Department of Veterans Affairs
(VA) and Federal Communication Commission (FCC) will be provided.
Presenters: Overview and at NIH - P. Kim Pham, Health Science
Administrator, ORDGMH NIA/NINR/NIDA/NIMH; Rural & Community Development USDA -
Cheryl L. Cook, USDA, Deputy, Under Sec. of Operations and Management; Rural
Health at HRSA - Public Health Analyst; Rural Mental Health at SAMHSA - Pamela
Fischer, Social Science Analyst; and Rural Mental Health at VA - Harold Kudler,
MD, Clinical Lead, VISN 6 Rural Hlth Program, Associate Director, VISN 6 Mental
Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center, clinical Associate Professor,
Department of Psychiatry, Duke University. There will be time at the end
of the session for questions and answers by panel members.

Alaska Native Heritage Center Dessert Reception
$30 per person
Wednesday, May 16, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Join us for a dessert reception and an evening of culture
and entertainment at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, a renowned cultural
center and museum in Anchorage. This is an exciting place to expand
your understanding of Alaska's first people and Native traditions and
customs of both the past and present. Share in the rich heritage of
Alaska's eleven cultural groups drawing upon the life ways of long ago, the
wisdom of the elders, and the traditions that endure. Tour the Hall of
Cultures, listen to storytelling and enjoy a dance performance. Mini
desserts, coffee and punch will be served. Bus transportation to and
from the Hilton Anchorage will be provided. Website:
