The Seward Highway is a "National Scenic Highway" and for good reason!
This is a spectacular Turnagain Arm tour where the best scenery in Alaska
resides. Tour includes pick up and drop off at the Hilton Anchorage, lunch,
tram ticket, admission to AWCC and Portage Glacier Cruise. Travel by
private van along the Seward Highway. First stop is Girdwood and the Alyeska
Aerial Tram. The Alyeska Aerial Tram is a three-to-seven minute scenic ride
from The Hotel Alyeska to 2,300 ft in elevation and the top of Mt. Alyeska.
From the Tram, you can see miles in all directions – including views of the
Turnagain Arm, up to seven “hanging” glaciers and endless peaks deep into
the Chugach Mountain range. After lunch in Girdwood you will visit the
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a rescue and rehab organization for
injured and orphaned animals. AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals
year-round and provides spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Animals
that cannot be released into the wild are given a permanent home at the
center. Next you'll visit the sheer, awesome face of a mighty Alaska
glacier. On your one-hour cruise aboard the
mv Ptarmigan you'll stand just 300 yards from a relic of the Ice
Age and watch for icebergs to break off the glacier and crash into the water
below. You will find out why Portage Glacier is Alaska's second most visited
attraction. Return to Anchorage by approx. 7:00 pm this evening.
